Union Minister Anurag Thakur has announced that Ahmedabad-born actress Asha Parekh, known as Jubilee Girl of Bollywood, will receive the Dada Saheb Phalke Award this year.

Who was Dada Phalke?
Dada Saheb Phalke is called the father of Indian film industry. Dada Saheb's full name was Dhundiraj Govind Phalke. Dada Saheb was born on April 30, 1870 in Trimbakeshwar, the town of Lord Shiva near Nasik, Maharashtra. His father was an ardent Sanskrit scholar and a professor in a college in Mumbai.
It is worth mentioning that Dada Saheb produced a total of 125 films. Which includes 98 long and 27 short films. He has made 41 long and 20 short films as a director.
